Sam Mitchell To The Milwaukee Bucks ?
Another great win by coach Sam Mitchell's boys last night ! The Raptors' great strides as evident in their 36-29 record and the sure capture of the Atlantic Division will definitely qualify as signifant progress . A lot more significant than the Knicks' significant progress that merited coach Isiah Thomas a contract extension from his boss James Dolan . But why is Sam still left hanging by Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo ? Is his performance this season so far still not good enough that B.C. still won't give him a contract extension ? I can only think that it's because B.C. is still set on hiring his man - Phoenix assistant coach Marc Iavaroni - to mentor the Raptors next season. You see , Sam, I think , is in the position only because of Raptors Consultant Wayne Embry , who in turn was the one who championed B.C. to the Maple Leafs And Entertainment, the parent company of the Raptors. At the start of the current season , B.C. said he wanted to give everybody a new start on a clean slate. Bull . Then why did he not give the old players a fresh start ? B.C. brought in 9 new players to replace old timers including crowd favorite Matt Bonner.
To Sam's credit. he did not let the current situation affect his performance. But I'm afraid the only way Sam can save his job is if the Raptors go deep in the playoff ( like battling for the Eastern Conference crown ) and the if the players specifically Chris Bosh ape Eddy Curry . The Knicks' big man threatened to leave N.Y. if Isiah's contract is not renewed. No Sam, changing your name to its Italian version- Sam Michellin - won't do . But don't worry fans of Sam. I think the opening at Milwaukee, with the firing of Terry Stotts, is the way out for both Sam and B.C.. Sam is familiar with the Bucks having served as the Assistant coach of this team before. So next season, expect Sam on the bench of another team most likely that of the Bucks !

I tell you what. He's better than Isiah !
How do you know so much about this stuff?
Good reporting!
Hey Coach....have a great weekend!

Wow, good stuff.
I think that
1. It is true that BC doesn't give a damn about giving the old guys a chance. In fact, I sometimes wonder if there is a conspiracy to glue Mo-Pete to the bench.
2. I think that Sam Mitchell has been nothing but class in a tough situation. Not too sure how much individual credit he deserves for wins. But do not think he should be getting the boot.
Yeah, we still post at http://www.raptorsblog.ca but just had a busy month or so that went with no posts. Check out our archives, we have a pretty in-depth mid-season review.
I don't know if Mitchell is the type of coach this team needs after this season. He has served as a great mentor, but has been out coached quite a few times (not the best X's and O's guy).
One thing that frustrates me is that the Raptors don't play good defense, and seem to only run a high pick and roll (then swing around till someone gets a good shot) on offense. This seems to work, but when a team figures out how to defend against it, it really gets ugly.
All that said, I personally like Mitchell, and I hope he lands on his feet somewhere (If he gets that Milwaukee job, he should bring Terry Porter as an assistant coach...then the student will become the teacher, lol).
I can't see Bosh standing up for Mitchell the same way Curry did in NY. Bosh doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who gets into the politics of anything, which I really respect about him.
I went on record as saying that Mitchell wont be back no matter what the team does, and I still stand by that (http://www.raptorstalk.com/?p=24, sorry for the shameless plug). I am very interested to see how this pans out.
n&b - only if the raps win the east . in short , a miracle !
john- amen.
lee ann - blogging is nothing but intelligent guesswork plus a dash of rumor .
nelson- i felt bad for mo pete but i'm sure another team will get him shd. the raps decide to let him go.
i will surely check ur archives and
yuor daily post now that i know that u have resumed blogging.
sam- i'm not a 100% fan of sam . you're right . the team's defence nees a lot of work .when they copy the suns, they copied their lousy defense .
abt. bosh . u can never tell . sam knows how to influence his boys!
thank ya all for your wise comments. .
i have no doubt he can infuence his players, but Marbury has been the only player to come out, and say that he deserves to come back.
seems he wont be getting that Milwaukee job anymore...too bad, I wanted him to land somewhere, and not fade into obvlivion like Kevin O'Neil did (last I heard he is short listed to coach in the NCAA again, can't remember where though).
sam- too bad 4 mitchell, the 'interim' in the bucks coach title was removed quickly and they decided to make coach k. permanent(?).
there shd be more opening at the end of the season in places like sacto, charlotte (if mj likes what he's doing at TO)and portland among others.
