Playoff Fever Sweepin' Toronto

Toronto Raptors fans are all excited by yesterday's win by the team versus the Hornets to formalize it's entry to post season play. ' It's been a long time. The last time we were in the NBA playoffs was 2002 ' said the voice of the Raptors, Chuck Swirsky. ' Chris Bosh is hugging and congratulating his teammates even before the game was over ' added his TV partner , Jack Armstrong. Their radio counterparts were even more ambitious. Paul Jones said the Raptors battlecry in this playoffs should be Why Not ?. ' If the Heat used 15 Strong last season and the Mavericks have Finish this season as their battlecrys, why not Why Not ?' he justified the choice on radio yesterday. I think Jonesy, as he is more popularly known, was again carried away by the success of the Raptors. I remembered him saying during the height of the Raptors' popularity (Vince Carter era) that basketball will surpass hockey as the number 1 sports in Canada in 10 years time ! Then the team's suddenly went aray.Basketball is the fastest growing sports in the country but I don't know if it can ever overtake hockey here.
This season, the Maple Leafs hockey team is on the verge of missing the playoffs. The Leafs lost last night preventing them from moving up and latching on the last playoff berth. If the Leafs do miss the playoffs, are there going to be many hockey converts moving over to the Raptors' camp ? It's likely that the young ones will. They will be 2 sports supporters at least. Talking about hockey, Sabres fans are coming up with songs appropriate for the Buffalo hockey team's playoff run this season . I hope Jonesy would not suggest that the Raptors' playoff song be James Ingram's Just Once .

Words like battlecry coming out of Paul Jones' mouth just don't seem right.

But I do love the Leafs missing the playoffs. Thats awesome.

If the Leafs miss the layoffs, there's a good chance that TV ratings will go up for Raptors games.I like to see that.

why not have commentators who don't have rug burns on their knees? i love how everyone is excited with the Raptors, it has been a long time coming.

but i find it funny these same people are quick to dismiss the last few seasons as mediocre (which is an understatement) when they pleaded for people to be patient with the system, and never thought of saying those words in the past - as well as rip underachieving players until they leave the team.

sorry, i am just starting to really hate the raptors pr squad. i think i am too jaded. i might have to email swirsky and take him out for a coffee, and give him a hug, lol.

arsenalist: it wld. be something if the leafs don't make it to the playoffs.the center of attention in t.o. will definitely be on the raps.
last time something like this happened, then raps gm, glen grunwald, was invited by the leafs mgmt. to give a rah rah talk to pat quinn's boys.

foto: i hope not.but then again,why not?

che: the highest tv rating a raptors game was something like 1.5 million in one of the 2nd rd. playoff games. it's nice to hit the 2 million mark !

n&b: raptors vs. nets in the 1st rd . ? why not ? there goes that jonsey thing again.if the raps dislodge the cavs from #2 spot and the nets hold on to #7 spot.or the raps stay at #3 and the nets move up to #6.why not?

sam: the excitement is felt by every1.after the game last week , i saw raptors owner larry tannenbaum all smiles in his all leather jacket walking via the players dugout.tannembaum is always there in moments like that playoff clinching day.only one missing was ben stiller of the house of tannenbaum !

man, i would love to see jersey in the first round. then maybe a cleveland or washington or miami in the second, after they beat on each other. doesn't look too bad. alot needs to happen for that to go down though.
