Rookies Of The Year

The battle for Rookie Of The Year is supposed to be between the Hornets' Chris Paul and the Raptors' Charlie Villanueva. Although, some Pacers fans will throw Granger's name into the ROY pool , it is really the 2 rookies first mentioned with their superb performances the basketball people consider as the front runners .

This is a much coveted award as one is only a rook once. Rook, thats what the veterans in the team call the new entrants to the league.
If this is chess, the rook can become a King or Queen depending on the developments of the game. One thing is sure , the rook is a powerful piece in the game.

When Sam Mitchell was asked by Reporters who he thought was the best rook. He answered - Charlie. When asked why he chose Charlie , he added - because he's my man.

Actually Wayne Gretzky has the perfect solution for the dilemna facing the choice of the rookie of the year. You see , in NHL this year , there are 2 outstanding rookies - Washington's Ovechkin and Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby . They are both excellent hockey rooks.
Gretzky said he will write to Commisioner Bettman to give both the
ROY award. If I were a betting man , like Janet is , I'd say the commisioner will concur.

It makes a lot of sense . After all , in chess you have 2 rooks not 1.
