Time To Upgrade The Quality Of Coverage.

Now that the Raptors are in the playoffs , the quality of the team's redio/TV coverage should follow. Enough of mediocrity and using unknown sports personalties masquerading as basketball Analysts and NBA experts. Viewers in Canada will now have the chance to experience ESPN's , and if the Raptors go deep in the playoffs, ABC's basketball coverage. Maybe the folks in Canada will enjoy a different brand of sportcasting . Maybe ? I'm not sure 'coz some people are so used to high octane announcing that they may find Merv Albert's style bland . You know stuff like a simple , Yes , to announce when a basket is made . Some like the way say a Buffallo Sabres' TV guy way of announcing. or shouting SCOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for every goal made by his team. What truly gets me riled up is when so called NBA/basketball experts like Eric Smith of Raptors radio (in right photo) , Norma Wick , Sherm and ' NBA lightweight ' like Leo Rautins or to some degree former NCAA coach Jack Armstrong , are continually utilized to provide analysis . Who the f--- is Eric Smith ? As one Raptors fan wrote ' He's just one of us '. Did Eric even played for Hamilton T Rex ? Give me an ex NBA player please . Aren't Leo and Jack cover college basketball for ESPN ? Let them confine themselves to their NCAA gig. Give me a bonfide ex NBA star so that they are more believable. You know. ' Been there , done that '. Not ' been there ...on the bench , done ...nothing during my NBA stint '. That's how really was Leo's NBA career. One former Raptor reportedly asked ' Who the f---- is Leo Rautins ? '. The ex Raptor was probably pissed off by Leo's constant sermons . Check his so called NBA career and take a look at Leo's short shorts in the photo at left. The quality of Raptors basketball has improved a lot. You know what should follow !

my vote is for bill walton and doug collins. those guys are my favorites. they know their sh*t. hopefully we get some american feeds, and a different perspective.

and marv albert is not bland. just cause he doesn't over use onions, and never got out the salami and cheese, doesn't mean anything. constant use of catch phrases is a sure sign some deficiency is being covered up.

i'm glad to know that you find merv ok , sam being a chuckie fan. i like his style a lot better that chuck' onions/salami and cheese stuff.
i don't know if bill walton is ok to some peeps. i know some hate his 'exaggerations'.i don't mind. in fact. i find these funny. having seen bill walton play real , no , make that excellent ball , bill walton can say anything he wants .like i can tolerate walt frazier's style. the 2 have the nba credentials esp. the championships rings . that's what i meant by raptors tv using guys who have zero nba experience or an nba benchwarmer or an ex ncaa coach . raptors tv's norma, sherm etc need more than the ability to speak in front of a microphone and the label ANALYST'to make a believer out of me.
swirksy , if i recall right , said a raptor asked the question abt. leo. this was during the vince carter era.as usual, he did not name the former raptor.
i am not a fan of chuckie . i wrote abt. it before. but i think we are stuck with chuck unless he suddenly change his name to chuck imus . why ? the dude is becoming a canadian citizen soon .

i like how passionate chuck is, but not what actually comes out of his mouth. the problem with the organization cutting checks is that you don't get any unbiased coverage. i don't know how much longer people will be able to tolerate his catch phrases.

walton over exagerates everything, and who ever the best player on the court is, will always be the greatest player on the planet. and that is ok cause he is a hall of famer, and won a championship. chuck hasn't hit a jumper his whole life. leo was a blimp on the radar, and sherman/norma are good at felatio. armstrong is the best of the lot...whatever that means.

Leo played for only 2 years in his NBA career! His sats are negligible.I can't believe a guy who talks like he is the greatest basketball player in the world is worse than Pape Sow.
What about if the Raptors TV drop the analysts by committee and hire one one legit ex Raptor player. Try Dee Brown. He's writing for HoopsHype.

I don't think the Raptors fans are aware of how good TV/radio coverage should be like. They are used to the present quality of TV/radio style because they don't know any better. If not,how do you explain the fact that the fans continue to tolerate the likes of Norma & Eric Smith as part of the TV/radio team when other teams' TV/radio crew are manned by legit ex NBA players.

Chuck Swirsky is an excellent play-by-play commentator. You don't get that kind of excitement out of most announcers! He's a city guy, a homebody, and he has a (strange?) passion for the Raps.

But Leo provides NOTHING I would call 'insight'. He just says what players would want to do anyway. "What they should do now is focus on getting the ball in the basket and making some Js. Get some points on the board and win this game." Thanks Leo???? God.

I'm a fan of Jack.

If anything needs to change in broadcasting it's getting some ex-NBAer, like you said, to give some authenticity.

Jack Armstrong is GREAT! I love his take on basketball. I agree, however, that Sherman, Norma, PJ, Eric, Paul, and *insert unnamed stuttering black man in suit* all have to go. We deserve better!
